man dies in single-vehicle accident

SEBRING
- A Sebring man died Monday night after his vehicle struck a utility pole at
U.S. 27 and Hammock Road.
Roy Snidow Sr., 84, of Sebring, was
pronounced dead on the scene, according to Sebring police Cmdr. Steve Carr.
The victim was southbound on U.S. 27
in a 2000 Ford minivan when he went through a red light and hit the pole
on the driver's side, according to Carr.
He added that there are indications
a medical condition could have contributed to the accident.

The Rev. Roy Eugene, 84, of Sebring, Fla., died Monday, August 10, 2009. Eugene
was born in Princeton, W.Va., and was a graduate of Mercer College and Emery
University. He was a retired Methodist Minister, serving as the visitation
pastor for The First Presbyterian Church of Sebring. Rev. Snidow moved to
Sebring in 1990 from Holllywood, Fla., where he lived for many years. He was a
veteran of U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper in World War II, receiving,
among other medals, the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Rev. Snidow served with
the United Methodist Churches in Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Marathon and
Sebring. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart,
Disabled American Veterans, and the 101st Airborne Division Association. He was
active as a chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol and attained the grade of
lieutenant colonel. He is survived by his wife, Louise (Elswick) Snidow and a
son, Roy Eugene Snidow Jr. of Sunrise, Fla. A celebration of his life was
conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2009, at the First United Methodist
Church Sebring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made
to the United Methodist Children' s Home in Enterprise, Fla. Morris Funeral
